Requirements
MBChB & MMed Degree (or equivalent) in relevant discipline. A minimum of 7 years appropriate experience as Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in a normal Specialty or in a recognised Sub-Specialty in the relevant discipline. Good verbal and written communication skills. Code EB or above driver’s license • Research background, publications in peer-reviewed journals and a PhD will be added advantages. Must have been an examiner in undergraduate and postgraduate examinations. Has participated in convening and conducting such examinations • Must have supervised postgraduate research • National standing amongst peers.
 
Duties
Manage the relevant department and provide Clinical services. Provide lectures to under and post-graduate students. Manage and conduct research in line with the departmental aims. Monitor and evaluate junior staff’s performance on a regular basis. Overall Supervision and management of the Clinical Unit in the Hospital. Management of both in-patients (Including intensive care and High care) and out-patients. Ensuring that there are protocols for the management of common medical conditions and that there is compliance to the protocols and guidelines. Promote and participate in outreach programs in the community and health institutions. Clinical governance – ensure quality assurance programs with the aim of improving clinical outcomes and managing risk in the workplace Participate in the University and Hospital Clinical and Management Meetings as a joint appointee and as delegated by the supervisor. Must engage actively in both university and provincial governance structures
