Requirements
Master’s degree in clinical psychology at an accredited institution of higher learning.Completion of a clinical internship at an accredited clinical setting. Completion of a community service under supervision. Registration with Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Clinical Psychologist- Independent Practice. Experience in primary health care services is desirable.
 
Duties
Provide primary care mental health psychology interventions for patients, including diagnosis, counselling and therapeutic interventions at various clinics. Conducting group therapy sessions as needed. Administering psychological and other assessments as needed for use in clinical and educational settings. Advocate for appropriate mental health services for patients in the public sector (TPTH). Perform several job-related administrative duties, including the writing of patient reports and analysing data. Attending ward rounds and providing feedback to the team regarding patients’ progress and treatment. Fulfilling administration duties as required for the smooth running of the unit. Working as a fully integrated member of the multi-disciplinary team including liaison with nurses, Doctors, OT’s, Social Workers, psychiatrists and with any other relevant professionals. Sufficient knowledge and exposure to health psychology. Providing psychological services to all patients including children and adolescents. Experience of culturally diverse settings and proficiency in at least 2 of the official languages of South Africa will be an added advantage. Provide psychological services to staff as referred by the Employee Health and Wellness of the Hospital.
